Used Boost Mobile Phones

February 10th, 2010 No comments

You know, I’m all about saving money, and one way that I save a truckload of money.  When I buy a phone is that instead of buying a brand-new phone from the store I go on eBay to see what kind of deals I can get there. One thing I’ve found on there is used Boost Mobile phones. Now, to be clear, I haven’t bought one of these, so I can’t guarantee how well they will work or what kind of a dell you’ll be getting.  That is really much more up to the seller of the phone.

What I like to do is I ago and I start searching on eBay for what kind of phone.  I can find, that seems to fit what I’m looking for.  Then, I start looking at the prices of that same deal new.  Now, if you’re looking at a prepaid phone.  A lot of times, you can actually get the phone on eBay brand-new for less than you would pay in store.  I find that to be very interesting, but it’s just part of the economics of eBay.  You just usually end up paying quite a bit less if that’s even possible.

The phone itself doesn’t even have to be used.  A lot of times, the new phones have pretty good deals.  And what’s cool is that you might be able to get a phone that they no longer offer anymore but would still work perfectly well on the network.  I know that when I use Verizon, they don’t really seller pushed the phone that I have anymore but it works perfectly well for their service area.  I was able to buy the phone for about 20 or $25, and it’s a little stash, but it works great, whereas they would have wanted me to pay over $100 for a slightly shinier version of the exact same phone.  A lot of the time a used phone can totally be the way to go.

However, when it comes to prepaid phones.  The phone companies are pretty much selling you the phone that cost because they want you to actually use their service.  Gus, the phones might be a year or two behind the latest and greatest, but they’re still very good phones.  Right now, you can actually get Blackberry phones that work well with Boost and you can even get in on limited Blackberry data plan for only $60 a month.  Keep in mind that not every Blackberry is going to work with the boost mobile network, and so you have to be careful about which one you buy and who you buy it from.  But if you do a little of your research.  You might be able to save yourself some money.

In the end, buying a used phone is a lot like buying a new phone except that a used phone cost less money.  Often times, a used phone works just as well.  And, if you save money on the phone that money is going to go toward service.  Wouldn’t you rather pay to actually get something of value like phone service minutes texting, e-mail Internet and so forth.  Or would you rather pay for her, a digital paper weight that only works if you have service you pay for?

In the end, it really just boils down to saving money and no matter what network you go with.  You can almost always save money by shopping around here.  Just because Best Buy or Wal-Mart has a sale one day doesn’t mean that RadioShack or eBay might not have a better seal the next day.

Also, for you extra savvy shoppers.  You may have heard of Bing‘s cashback service.  What this is is many retailers who have online stores have a special program where you can get next to a five or 10% off your purchase.  If you find their store via Bing.com.

That’s not necessarily going to save you a truckload of money, it is going to save you enough that it’s worth your time to do it.  Even eBay from time to time I’ll use this service to save you some money.  If you’re going to buy an expensive phone such as the blackberry anyways, five or 10% can mean some real money.
